COVID-19 Guidance
students with covid-19
Students who test positive for COVID-19 should isolate at home and follow the Isolation Instructions for People with COVID-19 from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Families of students who test positive are urged to contact their school's main office to inform them of the results. To exit isolation and return back to school on Day 6 or after, students must:
- Take a COVID test on or after Day 5 and receive negative results (antigen test preferred)
- For students who do experience symptoms, Day 0 of isolation is the day that symptoms first appeared.
- For students who do not experience any symptoms, Day 0 of isolation is the day the student was tested. Day 1 is the first full day following the day the individual was tested.
- Have been fever-free for 24 hours without the use of any fever-reducing medicines
- Have improving symptoms or no symptoms
If a student meets the criteria to leave isolation after Day 5, it is strongly recommended that they wear a highly protective mask around others, except when eating or drinking for 10 days after onset of symptoms or, if asymptomatic, after the first positive test. Please see COVID-19 TESTING for possible testing resources and PARENT/STUDENT RESOURCES for additional resources in the area. Reach out to your student's school office for any questions or concerns.
Student close contacts
Students who have been exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 do not need to quarantine and are able to attend school, provided they are not experiencing any symptoms and follow the Instructions for Close Contacts from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. Families of students who are exposed should contact their school's main office to inform them of the exposure. To continue attending school after an exposure to COVID-19, students must:
- Wear a highly protective mask for 10 days
- Students must wear a mask around others while indoors and when in close contact with others outside.
- Get tested 3-5 days after the last day of exposure
- Students who were previously infected with SARS-CoV-2 within the last 90 days are exempt from testing, as long as they do not have any symptoms.
- Monitor for symptoms
- If symptoms develop, test and stay home away from others.
Please see COVID-19 TESTING for available testing resources and PARENT/STUDENT RESOURCES for additional resources in the area. Reach out to your student's school office for any questions or concerns.
